Sonny, I just have few questions for you .. Do you actually live in the same state of Georgia as the rest of us? Are you suffering from any form of mental illness? Do you have your own personal supply of gas that you aren’t telling anyone about? Have you recently driven around Metro-Atlanta? Did you happen to notice the current state of nearly ever gas station?

Technorati Tags: Georgia gas crisis,Georgia gas shortage,Sonny Perdue

The reason I ask these questions is simple, after reading your recent comments I seriously have to wonder about your current state of mind. Your statements sound as if you are living some place else instead of actually being aware of the state that you’re presently the governor. Did you move recently without telling us?

I was reading up on the "supposed" gas crisis and found this article which made me seriously wonder. I wasn’t wondering if there was a gas crisis - having to hunt down a gas station is proof enough for me - no, I was wondering how someone could ever say anything like this:

“There is ample fuel in the city,” he said. “It’s not everywhere it needs to be, but we do not have a crisis in the sense that we don’t have fuel coming in.”

Uh, Sonny .. if there is ample fuel why is it that every gas station I pass doesn’t have prices up, has bags over the pumps, or has a line spilling out into the street cause its the only place to get gas for miles? Are you that out of touch with the reality of the situation? Who is keeping you informed of this issue and if you run into them in the near future I’d check for a pulse, or perhaps new pair of glasses or updated hearing aid. It’s all over the streets, the media, but for some reason you are governing with blinders on hoping it will go away without effort from you. Okay, okay I know you did "something" - yes, you let us use dirtier fuel cause its easier to get versus the cleaner alternative. I’d have to say if you planned ahead perhaps we wouldn’t need to burn smog fuel, but I guess that’s all water under the bridge now. Planning, if only you would of been aware of such a shortage occurring .. oh wait, you were told.

I’ve heard from the media that you were alerted to the impending issue around September 11th, or around that time, but you decided to take action AFTER the crisis had hit. Nice planning Sonny, and let’s give you kudos for completely ignoring the issue till the state was nearly dry of fuel. Did you come up with this master plan by yourself or did you consult with someone else? If the latter I would seriously never ask them for their opinion ever again. If you happen to think of this response all by yourself, well .. then I’m really worried that you have the foresight of Georgia clay.

I can’t recall where exactly I read or heard about Live Writer, but decided to finally download it and give it a try and see if its worth all the hype. I some times like to wait until the dust clears, and the fixes come out before testing something out. At first glance it seems quite easy to create a post with the template style sheet information being used to show you exactly how your post will look prior to publishing. It has a spell checker, which is always a plus when it comes to writing. Allows you multiple accounts to publish to an assortment of blogs depending on your posting needs. I’m curious how it handles images during posting .. I guess I’ll find out when I publish this. Then there’s the perks .. advantage .. or annoyance of having plug-in options. What would the world be like without more plug-ins?

It’s basically a very well equipped GUI based html editor for blog posting so if that’s what your looking for and you want a break from actually posting via the back-end editor then I’d suggest give this a test drive.

All in all I think I’ll keep using it for now .. unless something else comes out that does the same thing … with the same price tag. Free FTW.

Even with all the focus on “Green” and “Earth Friendly” options Corporate America is so slow (for the most part) with implementing work at home initiatives. Personally speaking I truly think that the majority of upper management has this paranoia that their workers are going to be sleeping late and napping on the couch all day. With the vast options of broadband internet and the ability to access work related material why does it take so much time to implement such simple plans? It must be related to that “warm body” syndrome when a manager can’t seem to figure out that you don’t need to see someone in a cube to actually know that person is working. I don’t know if it’s a trust issue, a control issue, or just an issue of not being able to implement something new and different.

Management of the World! Wake up! Do something new and different that doesn’t have to do with buzz words, committees, and double talk. Just make a plan and make it work. It’s not that hard.

Well, I’ve been kind of BUSY and it seems like blogging suffered along with some other things. So I got lots of catching up to do. I guess the really big perk of not generating traffic is that your EntreCard advertising fee goes WAY down and then everyone and their cousin wants to use your site. So where do I begin to say what’s been going on in my ever so exciting life? (mocking laughter goes here)

I guess I’ll just have to post as things pop into my head. That way I build up the suspense … are you ready?

Bad News: It seems my handle has been misconstrued as being the feminine of the species, so I’m pondering the need to start shaving while the hormone request goes through. I guess I need to throw some testosterone around else this mistaken gender issue will continue to plague me.

So in closing again I witness the universe and its Ying-Yang methodology … Win a contest … Change your sex. I think in the future I’m going to really have to think twice about winning contests of this nature.

Since this seems to make me wonder at times I think I have to ask it out loud:
What do people do with DVD when they aren’t in the DVD Player?

As stated before I have a Netflix account and I occasionally have the pleasure of getting a nearly pristine DVD and have the amazing experience of watching a DVD without having to deal with the dreaded “Stuck Picture”, “Reset to the start of the movie”, or the “Skip randomly to some other scene” situation. All these have one thing in common and that would be dreaded “DVD Abuse”. Yes, for some reason DVDs, not being made of anything akin to diamond or even a form of bullet proof transparency, have this amazing talent to get completely scratched, marred, split, smudged, and other forms of mutilation. Since they aren’t sentient we all know that these simple forms of media are the victims of unwanted abuse and destruction.

How can something as easy as removing a DVD from an envelope, then placing it into the player, and after watching it removing it from the same player, and finally returning it to the same envelope be so bastardized? How can people so easily mar such a simple piece of media when all they need to do it put in into and take it out of the DVD player? Are we talking about people that are hard up for coasters? Are we possibly thinking that people have some psychological or behavioral dysfunction that they tape sandpaper to their fingers before handling DVD media? What is so difficult about handling a DVD with a little care and finesse where you don’t end up screwing it for anyone else that wishes to watch it after you?

I’m not expecting anyone to walk around with white gloves in a sterilize zone when dealing with their DVDs, but can these harbingers of DVD destruction take it out on their own media and not the media shared by millions of others. I just can’t seem to figure out what people put these DVDs through prior to me getting them in the mail at times. Perhaps people watch a good 85% of their movies while at the beach, or in a sandbox, or perhaps use them to avoid sticking to the floor mats in their car just prior to placing the DVD in their mobile media player. Either way it just seems like a very avoidable situation, that I know most likely will never change, but I just had to ask.

Ugh! That just about sums up how I’ve been feeling for the last week, perhaps not the most poetic wordage, but when you’re dealing with an extreme head cold where your sinuses are making your head feel like it’s in a vice grip then that word just about sums up the total experience. I’d like to thank my health sponsors: Tylenol Cold Multi Symptom, Alka Seltzer Cold - Day and Night, some GoldenSeal, and let’s not forget my new best friend Mucinex DM. No, no .. not at the same time, but in combinations of course because it’s like a recipe for relief.

So at this point I’m not sure if I feel better or I just can’t feel certain parts of my body. I’ve also noticed a side effect of being sick and on lots of meds: I couldn’t keep a train of thought past 3 sentences … I think I was possibly drying up my brain while attending to my sinus’s attempts to force my eyes out of my head. Perhaps a bit graphic, but hey you weren’t here wondering why their head felt like it was going to explode – much like those commercials I made fun of in the past. So posting became a thing of attempt, but not much success, and then again a three sentence post just doesn’t do me justice.

So I guess I need to get myself organized and start putting some thoughts together and get them out there. I know I’ve been ignoring my loyal readers, or people who are just checking this out only one time, or some massive internet “Bermuda Triangle type phenomenon” where people click on Google and somehow they appear on my site. Either way … I will hopefully be making some recovery this weekend and should have a few posts out. Before I go I just have to say that “If that image is not an eye catcher then I don’t know what is” … yeah, these drugs sure do a number on me.

Well, I came home today and was given a new t-shirt, and the best part of the gift was it was a Christmas present that my girlfriend hide from me. Yes, she hid it so well she forgot about it and it stayed hidden till today when she was cleaning up and discovered her well hidden stash. Morale of this story - make sure you actually remember the gifts you hide. This is one of those lighter posts after my ramblings of what I run into at work. I don’t want you to go thinking that I’m on the verge of some postal rage. The secret is to laugh at your environment to lessen its impact on your mind. I also suggest you keep the laughter down to a dull chuckle at times cause some coworkers and managers might either take offense or have you committed “for your own good”.

Well, that’s all for now. Off to heat up some leftover pizza for dinner. Mmm, gourmet dinner .. here I come.

P.S. The title is a Daffy Duck reference. ;) Extra points if you recall the cartoon it came from.

Another phenomenon is quite the mouthful too, so follow me closely now:
Buzollution: pronounced Buz-ol-lution, coming from the words Buzz (the latest information within an industry or a locale), and Pollution (the act of polluting something, especially the natural environment). It’s the notion that you need to keep repeating the same phrases and jargon that others have come up with such as “metrics, synergy, vision, SOP, SLA, action item, Best Practice, and etc. Welcome to the wonderful world of words that make simple thoughts and concepts turn into melodramatic managerial banter. Yes, what would life be without catch phrase repeated constantly to avoid any real communication?
So a very common process, task, or job can be completely lost due to the use of buzz words and corporate jargon to the point where explaining what you do can’t even be explained by those that “supervise” you. Yes, those that control your very work existence at times haven’t a clue what’s involved in your day to day “things to do” schedule. Makes you wonder, eh? The best is when those that manage completely lose track of the details that comprise your job and when they ask questions about the most mundane detail you have to stop yourself from saying “You’re kidding, right?” Granted not all management have succumbed to this form of lobotomizing, but beware one day they know what they’re talking about and next their spouting words like a corporate-vocabulary waterfall.

Though I don’t have any ill will toward the practice of improving job processes, but I find the process to improve it almost as shoddy as the initial process that was the intended target “improvement”. It also seems that said improvements need to be watched over else management will twist them back to the “old ways” cause their more comfortable in how things are done “pre-improvement”. Of course, if they were aware of how things needed to be done, versus what their comfortable with keeping track of perhaps they would crave change as much as the workers. So, beware the jargon that makes you wonder what happen to the English language and if you ever want to end the conversation quicker than just repeat the last question spoken to you back to the person that asked it (perhaps slightly reworded – you don’t want to look stupid now) and watch their brain run around in circles like a dog after its own tail.
