Proberration
Those of you that are mentally enslaved at a large corporation will recognize some of the following, and others will laugh and count themselves lucky they don’t have to face such stupidity. You see without revealing a lot about my specific job I decided to share some of the mind numbing experiences that truly make me wonder how the people in charge got there in the first place. Thus begins my review of terms that are scene in today’s corporate world that need some acknowledgement and perhaps some clarification.
Term: Proberration
Meaning: Coming from the merger of Promotion (an advancement to a more senior job or a higher rank, grade, or position) and Aberration (a departure from what is normal or desirable), this is the term given to those members in your work environment that even after spending many years either doing substandard work, making a multitude of stupid mistakes and never learning from them, and overall not really accomplishing anything without extreme amounts of help or someone coming up behind them to actually do the work for them.
Yes, this is a case when you hear that, let’s say “Fred” got promoted you look at your coworker and say “WTF?” “How did he get promoted? - He can’t even do the job he’s doing now yet got promoted to a better job?”
It’s quite the mystery of the business world where someone you thought would soon be fired has somehow twisted the very fabric of reality and got a raise and a promotion. To add insult to injury there are usually several people that helped and cleaned up after said person and they are still doing the same job with the same pay and have to deal with the mockery of that is classically called a “career ladder”, in which it’s more like a “career speed bump”.
