“Nevermore” is such a limited vocabulary.

Direct Communication

I just spent several hours watching a marathon of Anthony Bourdain – No Reservations, thanks Tivo.

Ever watch it?  Perhaps it’s because I’m a native NYer, but I really enjoy his personality and wit during his travels.  I’m not much of a traveling person, but I wouldn’t turn down the ability to go wandering the world and meetings new people and trying out their food.  Though I have to also admit some of that food he has to taste makes me give him an extreme kudos for keeping a straight face.

I guess I get kind of burned out on all the worrisome edict and use of PC terminology that you run into these days.  What ever happen to the ability to speak one’s mind, and not have to worry about all the sensitivities of the world around us?  I’m not saying to be some callous bastard, but at times the need for being sensitive really does affect the ability to get a point across.  In the country that states the freedom of speech it surely seems like there are some preferences inferred as far as how you speak you free speech.  I suppose we need to reword said document to state “Freedom (free of insensitive remarks, connotations, or references) of Speech”. It’s getting to the point where a person can’t even enjoy a good sarcastic ramble just for the pure enjoyment of seeing how the other person reacts to you.

It often seems like in today’s world that so much is removed from a conversation due to the threat of offending someone that the meaning and initial point to the conversation is lost.  I’m certainly not endorsing that all talk must be rude, disrespectful, and vicious, but sometimes it’s necessary to wake people up to the obvious.

I’m now looking back and noticed how a cool program about visiting different places has made me talk about this.  I guess just the direct format that Anthony (after watching several hours of him you almost feel like you know him on a first name basis – I’ll have to end this post on a more respectful note) takes is such a nice change of pace to the bland and nearly canned manner of conversation that has taken over.  Perhaps that’s why I like some blogs more than others cause of the “bite” that some have in the direct form the author takes.

By the way, keep up the travels and interesting tales from the world “Mr. Bourdain”.
