Review: Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000

I recently purchased this webcam after reviewing several models that were advertised over the Christmas shopping season. I usually did a quick comparison to see if the cameras met some basic needs before even looking at the detailed specifications. When I saw the QuickCam Pro 9000 I really liked what it had to offer and the resolution on the camera was quite a change from the many cameras offered these days. I know there are probably others with similar perks, but this webcam seemed to be a complete package to me and thus why I purchased it.
The autofocus works great per several tests via a few IM clients I tested it out on. Also the ability for the camera to follow you around to keep it targeted on you was a interesting plus, though I don’t think I’ll be wavering back and forth too much while on the webcam unless I get quite intoxicated beforehand.
The resolution options were quite impressive (personally speaking of course) ranging up to 1600×1200 (go HD pictures!) and HD video of 960×720 pixels. With the included tools you do video clips or just click off a few pictures. When I saw the listing of mega-pixels going up to 8 and then up to HD I was certainly impressed with my options which you rarely see with your average webcam purchase. I guess you get what you pay for since many of the offerings of webcams usually have a resolution of around 640×480, and the frame rate is so choppy that it’s far from a smooth experience. The overall quality of the image and the available options make this a very wise purchase for many reasons.
Aside from what I already mentioned, on how easy it is to install, use, and seems like a solid piece of technology, even if something would go wrong with your purchase the webcam has a limited 2 year warranty on it. That alone should make a statement in the realm of technology where 1 year is the standard for peripherals and some you might get 30-90 days depending on the manufacturer. It seems that Logitech has some faith behind this product if their willing to offer a 2 year warranty on a product of this nature. So, if the need for a webcam comes up I’d seriously take a look at this model for its specifications and impressive video capabilities.
