RD Tabs
I’m constantly having to RDP into servers, workstations, and I use to be content with using the Remote Desktops that comes along with the Administrative Tools package. Then I read some articles about optional utilities so I did some testing and out of the half a dozen mentioned I really liked using the RD Tabs application. Considering some of the tools mentioned weren’t even worth installing, nevermind using I thought I’d take some time to share with you about the one I decided to use and why. The utility can be found here at Avian Waves if you’re interested in trying it out. Some of the Pros of using the tool are such:
1: Its Freeware, and not the kind of Freeware that you say “You get what you pay for.”
2: The ability to setup Favorites for those systems you RDP into on a regular basis
3: You can customize Favorites with folders for more organization
4: You can do batch editing on your Favorites, and also Import and Export your session settings.
5: Last, but not least, Tabs! Yes, who can argue with more tabs and less Windows clogging up your desktop?
Overall there are a lot of options, tools, and other preferences you can adjust to make this a very customizable tool and this from my experience with a RDP interface is quite a rarity. It’s a straightforward install, with basic functions ready to go and when you have time you can customize to your heart’s content. I haven’t found any real negatives to this tool and I hope they keep continuing with the updates. If you have need to RDP on a regular basis then I think you should certainly take a look at this tool and see what it can offer you.
