People Who Mattered?
I’m browsing the web this morning and start reading Time’s collection of “People Who Mattered” in 2007 and run into this. Brittany Spears mattered in 2007? I must of really lost touch with the definition of the term “mattered” cause for some reason I can’t see the world really losing out on much if she just disappeared. She barely mattered as far as entertainment, certainly didn’t matter when it came to safe driving talent, certainly didn’t matter as far as parenting is concerned, and I suppose her only real contribution is the pay checks of the horde of paparazzi that followed her around to every fast food drive-thru in her neck of the woods.
Someone needs to seriously research the definition of “mattered” if you ask me. Perhaps she mattered as a poster child on what not to do once you become a pop singer, as in don’t marry anyone that rubs up against you, don’t procreate as if you are the last couple on the planet and you’ve been tasked with repopulating a continent, and if you happen to pop out kids like a PEZ dispenser would you at least treat them as children and not as a smaller version of a CPR dummy.
People Who Mattered, give me a break.

Probably they mean people who are influential. Influence can be good or bad. Not that I don’t like Britney.
:P
Thanks Katherine.
I think Brittany’s time of “influence” is over unless you’re talking about “What not to do with your life” lessons. Perhaps this might have been valid when she was younger, on the charts, unmarried, and didn’t seem like a poster child for self-destruction or some mental affliction. If they used “People in the News” I could at least agree with that, but “mattered” seems to me to be more of importance versus just being in the spotlight.
