The Dreaded VWS

I’m officially back at work, but for some reason my body made it and my brain isn’t exactly here with me. Considering the medical world of today I swear there is some named disorder that I’m suffering from and I wonder if I can obtain some short-term disability from it. I wonder if it’s called something like VWS (Vacation Withdraw Syndrome), or WFD (Work Focusing Disorder). It seems that anything these days that has some noticeable symptoms can be labeled and documented as a disorder or personal mental affliction. I’m certainly not discounting those that suffer from problems, but I’m just amazed at the way in which common things I grew up with are now labeled and officially known as “diseases” or “disorders”.

Another work disorder that comes to mind is the problematic PCRD (Politically Correct Resistance Disorder), which is that affliction that you usually run into when communicating with others at work either via voice or some text based format (email, IM, etc.) and you want to say something pretty straight forward, but instead have to candy coat it to the Nth degree to the point where it’s nearly meaningless to mention it. This disorder usually causes you to pause and nearly stutter when it comes to communicating the most basic thought because it might be “interpreted” as one of the following ‘crass, mean, unnecessary, unconstructive’. It seems as the human race has evolved our sensitivities have grown at a 100:1 ratio. We still haven’t dropped that vestigial appendage, but we have acquired the worse case of emotional sensitivity that it can’t possibly be measured by any known form of measurement - it’s just completely off the charts at this point in time.

  1. How about BDD (Brain Deficit Disorder) or RIS (Restles Imagination Syndrome)?

  2. I believe I’ve ran into those two also, and the secondary affliction known as LIS (Lacking Imagination Syndrome) which seems to be widespread in some locations even if it’s not known as an airborne disability.
