Beyonce & Direct TV

Sitting here watching some television (imagine that) and I decided to review commercials. Yeah, you know commercials, those things you fast forward through when given the choice. So begins my series named “So they think this actually improves sales”. If it does, then please end my membership to the human race cause that’s just too damn pitiful. ;) For those that don’t get these commercials please forgive me, but I can only review what I have access to. If you want to send me a commercial to review by all means do so.

Reviewing ….. Beyonce and the “Upgrade” commercial for Direct TV.

Okay so aside from the fact that Beyonce is attractive and such; my question is what is the point behind the commercial? What does her dancing, rolling in gold, and holding some ridiculous piece of jewelry in her mouth suppose to mean to me and my possible urge to upgrade my Direct TV subscription. It comes across as completely pointless, and has no real benefit to any possible customer that has a pulse above their waist. To think anyone actually got paid for this concept makes you seriously wonder. Then you have to wonder about certain decision makers at Direct TV, who make obscene amounts of money most likely, actually are paid to make decisions like this commercial. Scary stuff.

  1. I always thought that commercial was for a phone upgrade!

The new one that I like is for southwest airlines, where they are playing a game system similar to the Wii and one guy says, its just like the real thing, throw me a pitch, and the other guy throws the controller into the tv which cracks and falls and breaks the stand.

    Need to get away?

  2. Humor in commercials is always a win situation and also gives you license to do things that don’t always make absolute sense. Of course it helps if the person watching it has a sense of humor. ;)
