Battlestar Galactica - Space Drama
I watched Battlestar Galactica last weekend, excuse me Battlestar Galactica “Razor”. Yes, I’m being sarcastic, but what did you expect. Okay, personally the best part was the old style (or as close as you’re going to get) centurions were actually represented in the show. After seeing what the show could do with the old model centurion I wondered why they went with the anorexic version they came up with for the remake of the old series. Yes, I watched the old show, and perhaps I’m jaded by the remake considering what they did with the originally story line. At times I wonder why they even call it Battlestar Galactica since aside from “names” used in the old show they had to change everything under the sun. It could possibly be better as its own space drama, if they stop referring to the old original show material. From what I recall the old series had female characters and pilots, but for some reason they needed to twist all the names and sexes around just to be confusing it seems. Like I said, they took just enough to name it the same as the old show, but changed enough to make you wonder why it has the same name.Oh, if you’re wondering why I said “space drama” then you haven’t watched the show. It’s more space drama then a story about two “races” cause the new series focuses more on all the mental fall out that being chased by the Cylons has done, not to forget the occasional skeleton in the closet plot that they throw in. I guess I was so use to the old show and it’s near constant reminders that Cylons were coming to kill them. Perhaps I’m just confused because you rarely see a “robot” anymore, instead you see the “new models” - aka human looking Cylons, and that alone makes me find less to enjoy about the show. The omnipotent Cylons for some reason had this urge to become more human, as if that would prove to be an improvement when trying to evolve your race. Between the need to “reproduce” and some confusing plot about Cylons and “God” it just seems to be a never ending twister of sub-plots of the psychotic race known as the Cylons. Yes, there was no way possible that Cylons could replicate except to make Cylons “flesh-like”, or so the writers seem to want us to believe. That’s what I would want, please make me easy to kill, and also don’t allow me to have my own face cause it’s just much easier for the humans to recognize me when I look just like the other clones of myself. The least you can do is make it easy to design a new face now and then instead of a fix amount of models that look the same. I would think that if I’m still wondering how humans can’t detect any mechanical parts in them, yet they somehow can “upload and download” their consciousness. Oh, sorry, you also have to be in range of the ship that allows you to download into a new cloned body. Oh, did I mention about several characters having avid mental delusions? Yes, let’s see off the top of my head Baltar, Six, and some others I can’t recall have these mental episodes where their talking to themselves via someone only they can see in their own little mental closet. Come on guys, as if the other plots you got going aren’t confusing enough now you have people talking to themselves on a regular basis? Even though I’m not a big fan I’ll still watch the series, but I can’t seem to understand what all the hype is about when it comes to a show that has so drastically changed and most of which doesn’t seem to make much sense. I guess I watch it so I have something to scrutinize about since I think the writers are confusing the crap out of me with their view on how a race of robots wants to be more human, or look human, or be human, - as if that’s an original plot line. Okay, turning rant off for now …. I can’t wait for the next episode.
